Welcome Students!Yale University Library extends a warm welcome to new and returning students. Whether you’re a Yale College freshman, a rising senior, a new graduate student, or writing your dissertation, the University Library provides a range of services, collections, spaces, and technology to support your research and learning experience at Yale. We especially invite new students to attend our orientation and other classes.
With 22 libraries and over 12.5 million volumes, Yale University Library is the second largest academic library in North America. At the same time, the Library and its staff offer personalized and flexible services based on your individual information needs. Reference librarians and subject specialists can recommend search strategies, suggest print sources for consultation, and direct you to online resources. Librarians can be contacted in person, by phone, e-mail, and online, meaning that you can connect with a skilled information professional in real-time at home or on campus. Our rich special and digital collections can provide you with primary source and visual materials in diverse formats and in all subject areas.
The Library is also a place for recreation and relaxation. When it opens on October 19, the stunning new Cross Campus Library will include a welcoming café offering fresh and delicious fare designed by the Yale Sustainable Food Project. Sterling Memorial Library’s Linonia & Brothers Room has a collection of popular literature including mysteries, new fiction from around the world, and travel guides and narratives. Exhibits and lectures offered across the library system also make engaging study breaks.
Please help us preserve Yale’s collections by keeping food and drink to designated areas, using only closed and spill-proof mugs for hot drinks or bottles for water or beverages whenever you are in the Library.
For more information or to get in touch with any of the Library’s staff, collections, or service points, or to use Orbis, the online catalog, and our vast electronic resources, visit the Library’s web site at www.library.yale.edu.
