About Beilstein & Gmelin DiscoveryGate
The Beilstein and Gmelin databases can be accessed online using the DiscoveryGate interface. The interface requires a one-time application plug-in. The DiscoveryGate information system can be used to search both the Beilstein (organic) and Gmelin (inorganic) databases. It provides access to more than six million structures and their associated chemical, physical properties, preparative methods, chemical behavior, and literature references (covering the literature from 1779 to the present). Substructure query types can include bond and stereochemical descriptors, atom types, generic groups (e.g. acyclics, heterocycles, etc.). The fact editor is a sophisticated data navigator that allows posing simple or elaborate queries. Search operators (and, or, not) enable the scientist to combine queries, and to manipulate lists of hitsets. DiscoveryGate displays structures, and as many data fields as the user wishes to see. Hypertext links let you jump directly to the record of the highlighted compound, allowing the user to navigate along synthesis paths.

Help: Use the Online Guide and Videos found at the DiscoveryGate site Related Resources: Combined Chemical Dictionary -- basic chemical and physical property information for chemical substances. This database is searchable by chemical name, molecular formula, structure, and substance data. CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics -- handbook of tables containing basic chemical and physical property information for organic and inorganic substances. SciFinder Scholar -- index to the chemical literature. Searches can be performed using keywords, chemical structure, molecular formula, chemical name, etc. Web of Science -- an interdisciplinary index for both keyword searching and citation tracking
